This Isn't a Film

As Jason begins answering one of my quesitons, Charlotte and Joseph start russling the packaging of the mango and chocolate bars they are holding, much to the dismay of Jason, who tells them to stop: "It doesn't help the movie with all that packaging noise. Stop!" Joseph follows up by stating bluntly, "It's not a movie." "It is a movie!" pleads Jason.

Daddy, Daddy?…Ask your Mom.

Chez Glasser, Paris

Jason proves that he is the pushover parent here and that Sophie is the authoritative parent. When begged by his kids if they can watch the Simpsons, "Daddy...Daddy", Jason responds by saying, "I don't know, ask your Mother," to which Sophie quickly responds, "No! It's no."

Lego Freaking Land

Chez Yolande, Rancho Mirage

When asked where she got her stuffed dinosaur, Sophie replies, "I got it at Legoland...Lego Freakin' Land." This suprises Yolande who is quick to say, "Sophie! We don't say things like that!" Sophie answers, "You said that!", to which Yolande responds, "Yes but I shouldn't have. You shouldn't always repeat what the adults say Sophie."

Whipped Cream

Chez Yolande, Rancho Mirage

"Open your mouth!", says Mammie to Sophie. After first refusing, Yolande allows Mammie to squirt whipped cream into Sophie's mouth before dinner. Much to the suprise of Mammie, the can is empty. "It's empty!", says Yolande, "You little sneak", she calls Sophie, blamming her for sneaking into the fridge and emptying the can without asking.

Americans Overpraise

Chez Boulé, Montreuil , France

Dana explains how she went from being an overpraising Mother, to downgrading her emotions, and embrassing some of the French style. A little less praise and a little more criticism never hurt anyone, right?

Petit Punk Rock - "It's me who decides what I do."

Chez Boulé - Montreuil, France

This is Dana's self-started music class for young kids 3-6 years of age. It's called Les Petits Punk Rock, and she hosts it at her home every Wednesday morning for kids in the neighborhood who have they day off from school. In this class she lets the kids play instruments, record songs, come up with their own lyrics, and throw rubber duckies. This song entitled, "It's me who decides what I do", was inspired by her 3 1/2 year old son Zed, who turned to Dana one morning and said, "Mommy, it's me who decides what I do." The kids in the class caught on to this song very quickly, (probably to the dismay of their parents).

Liam's Strawberries

Park in the 18th arrondissement, Paris, near Chez Dreano

When the days are warm, Heather will come meet baby Liam and his nanny in the park by the railways, nextdoor to their small apartment in the 18th arrondisment of Paris. This day was rather warm for mid March. Heather had recently gone to the market to pick up fish and vegetables for dinner that evening, and while enjoying the rest of the evening sun in the parc with Liam, she decides to give him some fresh strawberries to try.

Marché d'Olives with Heather

Marché des Olives, 18th arrondissement, Paris

Heather makes her way to the indoor market near her home in the 18th arrondisment in Paris to find fish and veggies for the night's dinner. She picks out a filet of salmon that will cost her over 13 euros. She asks the poissonniere to change to a less expensive filet of salmon that will cost her only 10 euros. After he wraps it up for her, she turns to me and reveals her surprise at how expensive the fish is. "And by expensive, I mean really expensive."
